Tommy is a veteran of the New York City Fire Department (FDNY), retiring with over 30 years of service. He was a member of Uniformed Fire Fighters Association of New York, IAFF Local 94. He spent the first 20 years of his career as an active member serving the neighborhood of Harlem, and then moved to the fitness unit at the FNDY Fire Academy where he helped physically prepare recruits to join the ranks of the FDNY. Tommy was instrumental in helping to shape FDNY’s wellness-fitness program and he has been a member of the IAFF instructor cadre since 2003. Since becoming an instructor, Tommy has taught numerous classes across the United States and Canada, remaining an active member of the team even after retiring from his department. Tommy finds it incredibly rewarding to share his knowledge and experience with other fire fighters. At the same time, he values the ability to continue to learn himself from the wide range of backgrounds and experiences of the fire fighters he interacts with while teaching courses.
Tommy has been a dedicated runner since early in his fire service career and is a 48-time marathon finisher. Physical activity still remains an integral part of his life. He runs roughly 50 miles per week and every year runs the New York City Marathon. Tommy also enjoys being physically active with his family, either running or spending time paddle boarding during the summer months. Also a devoted grandfather, he relishes watching his grandson and granddaughter excel in their given sport and hopes one day to have the opportunity to run a marathon with them. Tommy believes strongly in the mission of the F2T Program and the positive effects physical activity can have on a fire fighters life both on, and off the job. He is especially passionate about helping younger fire fighters become more active at an early age.
