While assessments are a core component of any wellness and fitness program, they should also be viewed as formative, an opportunity to receive feedback, and/or a self-check that can help to adapt and guide daily, weekly or monthly recommendations. To complement annual or semi-annual formal assessments administered by a department, informal assessments, perhaps structured as a ‘benchmark workout’ can provide valuable insight to every member to help shape their personal journey. This hands-on workout will introduce a series of workouts that fire fighters can use to monitor progress, incentivize participation and become more active in the process.
