Low back injuries are one of the most common and debilitating injuries that are sustained by fire fighters. And while the specific mechanisms are well described, prevention strategies must address the diverse range of risk factors many of which can be addressed via exercise and physical activity. For example, exercise can help to enhance kinesthetic awareness, improve active mobility of adjacent joints, and build the physical capacity to control spine motion in all 3 planes with a range of physical demands.
This workshop will explore the mechanics of low back injuries, highlight several modifiable risk factors, and share a series of exercise-related tips to avoid getting hurt in the future. This workshop does involve physical activity so come willing to move!
