F2T 222 – Practical Strategies to Prevent Low Back Injuries (Live on Zoom)

Understanding the types of injuries most common to fire fighters (and their associated mechanisms) will better inform efforts to prevent them (education, training or otherwise)

Low back injuries are one of the most common and debilitating injuries that are sustained by fire fighters. And while the specific mechanisms are well described, prevention strategies must address the diverse range of risk factors many of which can be addressed via exercise and physical activity. For example, exercise can help to enhance kinesthetic awareness, improve active mobility of adjacent joints, and build the physical capacity to control spine motion in all 3 planes with a range of physical demands.

This workshop will explore the mechanics of low back injuries, highlight several modifiable risk factors, and share a series of exercise-related tips to avoid getting hurt in the future. This workshop does involve physical activity so come willing to move!
